MINISTER FLAGS OFF YOUTH INTERNATIONAL DAY

The national Minister for Culture Youth and Sport flagged off today the celebration of International Youth Day events in Juba.

This year’s global theme reads “Building Better World in Partnership with Youth” while the country celebrates “Building a Better South Sudan”

The celebrations will start tomorrow with radio talk shows followed by a youth conference on Monday and Tuesday in Juba.

Minister Cirino Hiteng Ofuho said in his opening remarks that youth are a very important pillar for socioeconomic development of South Sudan.

He said the Government will critically focused on the youth because the future of the country depends on them.

UN Resident Coordinator Toby Lanzer said building a better world is not just South Sudan’s priority but a global need.

He explained that working with youth ranks fifth on Ban Ki-moon’s agenda for his second term as UN Secretary General.

Mr Lanzer asked how South Sudan could empower over half of its population that is young to reach their potentials and their dreams.

The UN official added that there is a need to looking into ways to help young people get education, and excel in sports, arts and music in order to grow into constructive adults that can shape the future of the country.
