The Catholic Bishop of Tombura -Yambio has declared Ezo Parish a martyrs’ centre for the diocese.
Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kusala made the announcement before the Centenary Cross celebration on Sunday at Regina Mundi Parish in Ezo, Anisa FM reported.He said in 2010 at least seven innocent people were murdered after an ambush at Regina Mundi Church in Ezo by the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels.
Many others were abducted and taken to the bush.
Bishop Hiiboro took the list of the innocent Christians killed for the sake of Christ to Pope Benedict in the Vatican to start a possible canonization process.
He read the names of the seven martyrs.
Bishop Hiiboro asked the faithful to continue praying for those who innocently lost their lives to witness to their faith in the diocese.
The Catholic diocese of Tombura-Yambio is still gathering more information about the profile of the seven martyrs and looking for other cases.
Ezo County in Western Equatoria was one of the most affected places by the LRA atrocities for the past three years.
Hundreds of people were abducted and others killed.
