The National Constitutional Review Commission is bidding for more time in order to go through the Transitional Constitution and make the final draft of the permanent Constitution to be presented to the President of the Republic.

Chairperson Akolda Man Tier told Bakhita Radio that the commission was given one year to submit the draft to the President’s Office, but seven months passed with no work because there was no money.

He said the commission is to ask for more time because it cannot conclude the permanent Constitution draft in the remaining five months.

He added that the commission needs to move to the ten states to collect views and five months are not enough to fulfil the task.

Mr Tier said the commission was supposed to conduct public education, revised the Transitional Constitution, move through the ten states and prepare the draft Consitution.

He said the commission has failed to do its task on time because there were no available facilities and the time frame remaining is not enough to accomplish the task.

Mr Tier said the commission is still waiting for the approval of the budget from the ministry of finance so that it started working.
