The Anti-Corruption Commission gathered civil society groups, NGOs and heads of departments in Western Bahr El Ghazal governmental institutions in a one-day workshop to form the state anti-corruption forum.
South Sudan Anti-Corruption Commission General Director Francis Kupako Bassan explained that the core objective of the workshop was to lay the foundations for civil and government bodies to fight corruption, Voice of Hope reported.He said a representative from civil society groups will sit in the forum’s board of executives.
Mr Koubako said the fight against corruption requires many efforts and coordination among various institutions in the state.
He added that the body is tasked with consulting with the communities about local development issues.
Mr Koubako said the forum will enhance performance and good governance.
Western Bahr El Ghazal Deputy Governor Mauris Yel Akol Tiit said corruption exists both in public and private institutions.
He explained that it was difficult to fight corruption if most of the stakeholders did not know how to do it.
Mr Yel added that to fight corruption good governance and capacity building must be improved.
The deputy governor said it was important that stakeholders monitored the performance of executive bodies to combat corruption.
The role of the body, stages and steps of social accountability were explained to the participants attending the workshop.
