MINISTRY ALERTS POPULATION ON EBOLA PRECAUTIONS

The ministry of health in Western Bahr El Ghazal has started a massive awareness campaign against an Ebola outbreak that hit neighbouring Uganda.

State minister for health Isaac Cleto Hassan called on the entire population to take pre-cautionary measures to prevent the possible outbreak of Ebola in the area.

He stressed that his ministry formed today a mobile team that will monitor suspected cases of Ebola and give appropriate reports.

Dr Cleto said though Ebola cases have never been reported in the state, it is necessary to make the population aware of its dangers.

He added that the health team that will mostly target institutions like schools to disseminate awareness information on precautionary steps.

Dr Cleto pointed out that the state hospital will allocate a special ward for the suspected cases.

He asked health workers and family members to avoid coming into contact with suspected patients.

Ebola first hit Northern Uganda’s capital Gulu in 2000 killing hundreds including a medical doctor at Lachor-Gulu Hospital.

Ebola symptoms include bleeding from all the body openings, skin rashes, high fever and diarrhoea.
