Heavy rains and insects have destroyed crops this year in Kapoeta East County of Eastern Equatoria state.
A Member of Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly Benjamin Lopeyok his area is most affected by the heavy rains from the onset of the season and insects that have invaded the crop fields, Radio Emmanuel reported.Lopeyok who represent Mogosi and Jie Payams in the State Assembly predicted that over fifty thousand people are likely to face food shortage over due to crops failure.
Lopeyok said the heavy rains and insects destructions will not give any opportunity for the crops to mature.
He said the harvest last year could have be better compared to what might come at the end of this season.
The Legislator called on the state government to carry a survey to establish the effects of the destructions especially in hard hit places like Narus.
More counties and large population could be affected and the ministry of Agriculture will survey impact of the heavy rains on other areas in the state.
