South Sudan is committed to solve peacefully the outstanding issues with the Sudan and it is ready to take up the new strategic approach drawn by the African Union High Implementation Panel.
Acting Government spokesperson Biar Madut Yiel told the press after yesterday’s Council of Ministers that President Salva Kiir Mayardit assured the African leaders and the UN members attending the AU summit that South Sudan is ready to iron out outstanding issues before August 2.He added that President Kiir urged President Omar Al Bashir to accept the fee of one US Dollar per barrel of crude exported through Sudan’s infrastructure to enable South Sudan to resume oil production.
Mr Madut said President Kiir met President Bashir at the sidelines of the AU summit in Addis Ababa and urged the Government of Sudan to negotiate a peaceful settlement with the SPLM-North.
He said the Government of South Sudan is ready to facilitate the negotiations.
The spokesman added that President Kiir asked President Bashir to reopen the borders to trade and resume direct flights between Khartoum to Juba.
Mr Madut said the Government of South Sudan is ready to give 2.6 million US Dollars to the Government of Sudan if Khartoum agrees on the one US Dollar transit fee per barrel of oil.
He said President Kiir proposed to the UN to appoint an administrator for Abyei. Both countries would appoint their staffs in equal numbers.
