SOUTH SUDAN JOINS AFRICAN VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY

South Sudan has joined the African Virtual University that give resources and access to distance learning for students in the continent.

Higher Education Minister, Peter Adwok Nyaba t that South Sudan become the latest member to signed up for the African Virtual University charter, Radio Bakhita reported.

He said the new nation will benefit from the membership through accessingÊ resources like books online as well as hard copies.

Prof Adwok added that South Sudanese who want to pursue university education can now do so through the open and distance learning program.

He said higher education is very expensive and that the austerity measures has forced the government is going to stop paying for students’ tuition fees and feeding.

He said the government is trying to introduce loan system where after graduation the students have to refund back the money.

The minister added that the government cannot sustain paying for students’ tuition, feeding and accommodation anymore.
