Eastern Equatoria State plans to establish a taskforce to coordinate and monitor environment issues in the state.
State Minister for Environment, Wildlife Conservation and Tourism George Echom Ekeno said the taskforce will work together with different ministries and developmental partners in order to put resources together, Emmanuel Radio reported.He explained that the taskforce will conduct environmental education in schools and communities on the importance of protecting sources, especially water.
Mr Echom said the taskforce was to identify dumpsites and develop and improve sewage treatment in the state.
The minister urged the population to protect wildlife, saying it can be a better source of revenue than oil.
The Environment Taskforce will be headed by the State Director from the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife Conservation and Tourism after the approval from the state Council of Ministers.
