Kapoeta South County commissioner is alarmed over rising sexual exploitation of young girls in lodges and bars in the town.
Commissioner Martin Lorike Lojam explained that security reports indicate that some lodges take advantage of girls under the age of 18 years to entertain their guests by playing music till late in the night. He said the young girls end up being sexually exploited in the bars and lodges.
Commissioner Lorike explained that some boda-boda operators are also involved in connecting and transporting the young girls to the lodges as sex workers and some are raped on their way to the lodges.
Mr Lorike said the rate of HIV AIDS is rising in Kapoeta towns due to the increase of sex workers along the international route to Kenya.
He added that he issued a directive to security forces to arrest children and boda-boda riders moving late at night and that those who defy the regulation will be fined 100 Pounds or serve a month in jail.
Mr Lorik said only boda-bodas transporting patients to the hospital are exempted from the punishment.
