Western Bahr El Ghazal state ministry of education has today launched the first girl child education forum.
The forum aims at strengthening the enrolment of girls in schools.The forum was celebrated under the theme “Encouragement of girl`s child education is the responsibility of all.”
Hundreds of students and pupils from different schools in Wau mostly girls gathered at Mbili Girls Secondary School to celebrate this important event.
State Education Minister Adil Athanasius Surur expressed concern over the number of girls that drop out from the schools in the state.
He said that Wau is challenged by low level of education compared to the other states of South Sudan.
Mr Athanasius strongly appealed to the law enforcers in the state to consolidate the law that rules for seven years imprisonment for men impregnating a girl below eighteen years.
He recognized that there is need for collective efforts by both the Government and the parents to uplift the girl child education in the state.
