MINISTER CALLS WOMEN TO PROTECT ONE ANOTHER

Central Equatoria Minister of Gender and Social Development has today called on the women to protect themselves and their children.

Mary Apayi Ayiga said in her address at Prayer Day for Women in Juba that women need to protect themselves not only from men’s abuses but also from other women.

She added that there are other women who are involved in criminal activities during night times.

Ms Apayi said the when women are mistreated nobody report this to authorities

The head of UNMISS Gender Unit Ruth Kibeti called on women to help fellow women that are suffering in other states as the way of ensuring building peace in South Sudan.

She said women have to take this opportunity to call for an end to violence against them.

Ms Kibeti added a man did not marry a woman to beat but to love, cherish and respect her.

She said women of Central Equatoria state are asking God to have peace and engage in farming activities to produce food.

The Chairlady of Women’s Union in Central Equatoria State Jennifer Kujang said the Peace Prayer Day aimed at promoting peace building, peacemaking and unity.

She called for the protection of the human rights of vulnerable groups in the country and dialogue for a peaceful mechanism to resolve all sorts of conflicts.

Ms Kujang announced that the Women Peace Prayer Day will be an annual occasion calls for protection of rights of women, men, girls and boys in South Sudan.
