A member of Solidarity with South Sudan has said that there is need for positive reporting in South Sudan in order to promote development.

Comboni Sister Sandra Regina Amado told Good News Radio on Monday that the majority of people only know negative things because these are the things reported in the media and positive stories are sidelined.

She said there are good things happening in the country and Solidarity with South Sudan is praying and working for peace, development and good news.

Sr Sandra added that even the Parish Priest of Abyei, Fr Biong Kwol Deng, currently displaced in Agok, thought that the people from Solidarity with South Sudan would not run a teachers’ course in Agok because of the news of war.

La Salle Christian Brother Augustine Nicoletti said that he felt safe in South Sudan at the same time.

He explained that his religious community did not want him to travel to South Sudan because of some reports published in the influential New York Times newspaper that showed graphic images of deaths in border conflict with Sudan.

Br. Nicolletti said the call did not deter him from visiting South Sudan because it is God who has called him to work with the people in the new nation.

Solidarity with South Sudan is a consortium of more than 200 religious congregations that offers training for teachers, nurses and pastoral personnel in several locations throughout South Sudan.
