The Justice and Peace Commission in the diocese of Wau this morning started a two-day conference on the Transitional Constitution review.
The conference will look at South Sudan’s Transitional Constitution 2011 and the role that the Church and civil societies can play in the constitutional development process.More than 60 representatives from the church, civil society, government, local chiefs and youth are attending this conference at Mullam-Catholic Health Training Institute.
Addressing the participants at the opening session, Western Bahr El Ghazal Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan said good governance is the guideline that should be followed in any constitutional process.
He added that every citizen should know what the state has to do for them and the citizens also should know what they should do for the state.
Mr Zachariah pointed out that to formulate a strong Constitution people should be careful about their social cultures that sometimes contradict the constitution.
He noted that an effective Constitution reflects the life of the community.
The conference is organized by the Justice and Peace Commission with the support of Trochaire and Caritas Italiana.
