The national agriculture and forestry minister said today that the government needs to tax the livestock sector to generate more income for national development.
Betty Achan Ogwaro said taxing the livestock sector can generate more money to the nation. She explained that the Livestock Act passed into law by the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly in 2008 makes it legal for the Government to tax pastoralists who have many animals.
Ms Achan added that animals are sources of revenue and that taxing the livestock can increase funding to the sector and enable it to produce more with a small budget and cut depending on the Ministry of Finance.
The minister was speaking at the closing session of the first national livestock and fisheries coordination conference.
