Jimmy Carter, the former US president, said Sudan is ready to pull its troops out of Abyei in line with a resolution of the UN Security Council.
Two members of The Elders, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Lakhdar Brahimi, met President Omar Al-Bashir in Khartoum on Sunday.The President spoke in detail with the Elders about problems in Sudan as well as between Sudan and South Sudan.
At the end of the meeting Mr Carter announced that Sudan was ready to withdraw its forces from Abyei without preconditions.
The Elders are independent leaders using their collective experience and influence for peace, justice and human rights worldwide.
The group was founded by Nelson Mandela in 2007.
