Tonj South County Commissioner postponed tax collection in the villages due to food shortage in the county.
Mario Monydhiath Dhal told the community in Tonj Freedom Square on Sunday that he decreed postponing tax collection until October 2012 to allow residents to have enough food to eat and to avoid pressuring them while they are facing hunger. He also stopped the survey committee during the rainy season to allow people to cultivate as much as they can to produce enough food and defeat hunger in the area.
Mr Monydhiath said he will go out with a team to check for people seating idly without going to their gardens.
He lamented that only women are working the fields.
Mr Monydhiath urged Tonj South residents to cultivate more food crops and avoid laziness to defeat starvation.
