Lakes State Governor has declared that Friday will be a half working day in the State.

Chol Tong Mayay told the crowd celebrating SPLA Day in Rumbek Wednesday civil servants will have additional time to work in their farms and bridge the economic gap created by the oil production shutdown.

He warned that idlers will be arrested and sent to work in Government demonstration farms.

Eng Tong added that the State government has resolved to address the challenge of austerity measures by embarking on local revenue collection and enforcement of public service reforms.

Youths were urged to register in the army to boost security at the borders.

Major General Mangar Buong recalled that the liberation war was fought by the youth from the days of Anyanya One.

He said the young people have the responsibility to defend the nation.

Gen. Buong added that the border conflict would not be resolved at the negotiation table but through war.

Former Lakes State Deputy Governor Daniel Ayual Makoi reminded people of the need to cherish the history of South Sudan’s struggle for independence to strengthen the spirit of nationalism among South Sudanese.

He told survivors of the liberation war that they have the responsibility to teach the young people about the history of the struggle.

Mr Ayual advised political leaders to treat and serve people equally, mindful of the sacrifices made during the liberation war.
