Engineers are not part of the government setup because they are not organized and have not effectively participated in South Sudan’s makeup.

The Chairman of the South Sudan Engineering Council Barnaba Dumo told the first general assembly of the South Sudan Engineering Society that engineers need to be organized through an union to spearhead their interests.

He urged the Engineering Society to set up standards and codes for the engineering profession to avoid the chaos that is taking place in the building industry.

Guest of honour Paul Adong, who manages Nile Petroleum Corporation, said for engineers to be backbone of nation building they need to be committed to understand the challenges and exert more efforts because the task ahead is huge.

He advised engineers to use the general assembly to address the challenges to the profession.

The first general assembly meeting of the South Sudan Engineering Council drew together over 100 engineers from across South Sudan.
