Lakes State Government has approved a proposal by an Italian association to construct a sports academy in Rumbek.
CESAR also promised to support the implementation of all the projects initiated by late Bishop Caesar Mazzolari in the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek, Good News Radio reported.Director General at the state’s Information Ministry Madom William Mading said Governor Chol Tong Mayay approved the proposal and promised to issue an acceptance letter to the association.
He said the meeting with the governor also aimed to dispel fears that the implementation of CESAR’s projects in the diocese would be affected by the impending cabinet reshuffle in the state’s government.
Mr Mading paid tribute to late Bishop Mazozolari and thanked the administration of Rumbek Diocese for keeping his promises.
He reminded the people of Lakes State that the Italian association and the Diocese are working for their welfare.
CESAR Vice President Marco Bertolotto said that the association is focused in three projects: teachers training centre with an computer facility in Cueibet County, sports academy and agricultural industry and infrastructure development.
He said the meeting with the governor was positive and the governor expressed interest in the projects and pledged full support to the association.
Dr Bertolotto noted that young people in Lakes State are interested in soccer, pointing out that positive mentality and technical skills as well as good body structure are among the important prerequisites for professional football.
He added that sport is not only useful for physical fitness but could also be used to improve the quality of education and life of young people.
