Residents in Jonglei State are suffering from alarming levels of malnutrition as a consequence of inter-communal clashes that took place between December and March.

UNOCHA says in its South Sudan weekly humanitarian bulletin that food security monitoring has shown alarming levels of acute malnutrition in Jonglei state.

Even Akobo County, the only county in Jonglei with adequate nutrition programming, has serious problems of acute malnutrition.

UNOCHA says screening for malnutrition in Jonglei is difficult because of the inadequate staff numbers, the state’s large size and access difficulties in some areas.

Health workers continue to provide vaccinations and feeding for severely malnourished children.
