The Catholic Bishop of Tambura-Yambio paid his second visit to Mupoi Parish in preparation for the celebration of 100 years of evangelization in the diocese.

The Comboni Missionaries arrived in Mupoi in 1912 to start the evangelization work among the Azande.

Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro was accompanied by the heads of different groups who went to the site of the centenarian celebrations for general cleaning, construction of shelters, and renovation of the old houses built by the missionaries 100 years ago, Anisa FM reported.

Mabu James, coordinator of the Development and Peace Office, led the team.

Bishop Hiiboro told the team that he was very much pleased with the work done by the Centenary Commission.

He encouraged the faithful to take the occasion of the centenary celebration as a blessing from God.

Vicar General Anthony Bangoye, who chairs the Centenary Commission, thanked all the groups and individuals who have kindly given physical, moral and financial support for the great occasion.

He said lack of water was the major problem for the people in Mupoi, especially during dry season.

Fr Bangoye complained that the local community is discouraged and few people turn up for the manual work at the centenary site.

He said the satiation at the place was poor.

Fr Bangoye appealed to Bishop, NGOs, state government and all well-wishers to assist the local community to improve water supply and sanitation.

The Centenary celebrations of the evangelization of Western Equatoria started on December 11, 2011, in Yambio and end in Mupoi on December 12, 2012.

The Centinary Cross is visiting all the parishes of Tombura-Yambio diocese.
