Vivacell customers in Wau are experiencing difficulties in communications due to the shortage of airtime in the market.

Since last week, Vivacell has not been able to supply the market in Wau with airtime due to the closure of the local airstrip following a crash-landing by a Feeder airplane.

Elizabeth Sebit told Voice of Hope that people are in dire need of Vivacell airtime as they need to communicate with their relatives far away.

She urged the cellular company to supply airtime to the market.

Abu Bakar Adam, a shopkeeper at Jaw market in Wau, said Vivacell customers are complaining about the lack of airtime in the shops.

He requested the company to do everything possible to avail scratch cards to customers.

Mr Bakar noted that without airtime, telecommunications become more and more complicated.

John Kendy Luciano, Vivacell Logistics Administrator in Wau, said the closur of Wau airport is responsible for the shortage of scratch cards in town.

He explained that Vivacell usually transports airtime cards by plane.

Mr Kendy said Vivacell does not have any problem with airtime. The trouble is with air transportation of scratch cards to Wau.

Wau airport was temporarily closed down last week after a Feeder plane crashed during landing.

The shutdown has affected the state of Western Bahr el Ghazal in various ways.

WFP is flying to Aweil and passengers are brought by road to Wau at their own expenses.
