Domestic and gender based violence are on the decrease in Yei due to awareness campaigns.

Yei Rever County Women’s Association chairperson Sarah Natalino told Radio Easter that violence against women and abuse of women’s rights were gradually reducing in the region.

She praised the gender office for carrying out massive awareness programs to the various communities on gender based violence.

Mama Sarah said during the first three months of the year only five cases related with domestic violence were reported to her office.

Some situations were solved through counselling and dialogue.

Mama Sarah explained that some families still violate women’s rights.

The women’s leader appealed to spouses to avoid violence against each other so that children will learn respect from them.

Mama Sarah added that women and men should both respect each other’s rights for the success of South Sudan which requires much work from both men and women to resuscitate it in all aspects.
