There are still 7,500 South Sudanese students attending universities in the Sudan and they should be able to conclude their courses without problems.
Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told journalists that those students are protected by an agreement between the ministries of higher education from both countries.
Dr Marial advised students from Arabic stream to return to the universities of Sudan and conclude their courses since in South Sudan the universities teach only in English.
He added that today’s Council of Ministers instructed the minister of Higher Education to hire urgently much needed lecturers for the universities of South Sudan.
Dr Marial said vice president Riek Machar Teny would meet the vice-chancellor of the University of Juba and the minister of Higher Education to discuss the reasons that led to the closure of the university and when it will be reopened.
