The UK has expressed deep concern over the continue conflict in the borders of South Sudan and Sudan, and at the plight of civilians caught up in the fighting in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile.

The UK Minister for Africa Henry Bellingham called on all parties to the conflicts in South Sudan and Sudan to stop fighting, return to the political process, and allow full humanitarian access to the people affected.

He urged the Government of Sudan to stop bombarding civilian areas, and the Government of South Sudan to stop providing military support to the SPLM-North.

Mr Bellingham called for the establishment of a safe demilitarized border zone, to be monitored by UN peacekeepers and the armed forces of both countries to calm tensions and aid people living in the area.
