Teachers represent one of many blocks that keep girls from school in South Sudan.

Director of Education in Tonj South County Joseph Dam Goc told Don Bosco FM that teachers are contributing factors that prevent girls from completing secondary education due to sexual abuse and unwanted pregnancies.

He said that other factors include parents and boyfriends who make it hard for girls to continue education.

Parents force their daughters into early marriage for the material benefits.

Mr Dam added that parents many times do not pay school fees, and the other necessities like uniforms and shoes.

He warned teachers that anyone found having an affair with a pupil will face disciplinary measures, including dismissal.

Mr Dam urged school and non-school boys to give chance to girls so that they may be like Nyandeng Malek, the governor of Warrap State.

He urged parents and guardians to enrol girls and support them while at school.
