A deputy minister has urged people living near game parks to stop killing wild animals because they are a source of income to the new nation’s economy.

National Deputy Minister for Wildlife Conservation and Tourism Ubuch Ujwok called on the communities to realize the high risks caused by poachers on wildlife all over South Sudan since the country is running short of money.

He told Radio Emmanuel in Lafon-Lopa County that the policy of Ministry of Wildlife guarantees animals protection.

Mr Ujwok said the government has embarked on developing Lawelo, Lafon, Imotong and others national game parks in the country for tourism to generate income in the absence of oil revenue.

He added that the national government is serious to invest in wildlife as well as diversifying its sources of revenue to improve the welfare of the country to avoid dependence on oil.

Mr Ujwok revealed that the national government is deploying enforcement officers to protect the wildlife and urged the communities within the areas of game parks and reserves to abide by the law.
