SPLM members that call themselves Concerned Group for Restructuring of SPLM Youth League today called on the current leadership of the league to dissolve and be replaced by an interim committee to organize the youth.
The chairperson of the Concerned Group, Agel Ring Machar, told journalists at a press conference in Juba that the restructuring of SPLM’s organs should start with its youth league.He said the youth league is very important because it is where the SPLM can produce leaders for the party and the for country.
Mr Ring added that last month 32 Youth League members signed a petition addressed to SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum with copies to party’s top leadership including Chairman President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
He said the petition recommended that the Youth League national executive committee should be dissolved and an interim committee set up to organize the youth from the grassroots.
Mr Ring added the document also called for an urgent SPLM Youth League convention for the youth to organize and elect a new leadership for the new challenges facing the country.
He added that the group did not receive any response to the petition.
Mr Ring explained that the mandate of the current SPLM Youth League National Executive Committee ended two years ago according to its 2007 Constitution.
