The Government of Eastern Equatoria has prohibited civil servants to use Arabic language in office work.
Acting state Secretary General Peter Aitiy Lokong sent a circular to all government offices directing that any other languages apart from English should be disregarded in communicating official information.He warned that it was against the law of South Sudan and Eastern Equatoria State to use Arabic to communicate official information.
Mr Aitiy said the practice of using Arabic for communicating official information must stop immediately.
He added that documents such as driving license and identification cards that had information in Arabic should be withdrawn and re-issued in English.
