The Catholic Archbishop of Juba has returned from Nairobi, Kenya, after participating in a religious peace initiative organized by the Sudan Council of Churches for South Sudan’s troubled states.

Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro told Bakhita Radio upon his arrival that he and three church leaders went from Juba to joint five others from Khartoum to Nairobi to discuss the issues of insecurity in Jonglei and other areas of South Sudan.

He said the ten-day meeting focused on the ways the Church in Sudan and South Sudan could contribute for peace and security in the new nation.

Archbishop Lukudu said the church leaders discussed ways of intervention to create peace and reconciliation in Jonglei and other warring states of South Sudan.

The prelate acknowledged that peace is not a one person’s initiative but a common responsibility.

Archbishop Lukudu said the church shares in the painful moment the country is undergoing and wanted to be involved in peace making among citizens of South Sudan.
