Government institutions had a lax attitude towards non oil revenue collection but the oil production shutdown changed the situation.

National finance minister Kosti Manibe Ngai said yesterday that most government institutions and agencies did not pay much attention to non oil revenue collection.

He defined the collection of non-oil taxes as tedious and generating small money.

The minister said the oil production shutdown changed the situation and agencies have to collect far more money from non-oil taxes to run the government.

Mr Manibe said between 2007 and 2011 the Government got its money mostly from the oil industry.

He added that non-oil taxes collection increased substantially in the past months.

The oil production shutdown has limited South Sudan’s capacity to finance its activities.
