Ethiopia is set to supply electricity to parts of South Sudan.

National deputy minister for information and broadcasting Atem Yak Atem told the press this afternoon that the Cabinet agreed to supply the eastern part of South Sudan from Renk to Kapoeta with electricity from Ethiopia.

He said the council of ministers discussed in detail the financing arrangements and gave green light to the project.

Mr Yak explained that the power supply contracts will be financed by loans for the first time in South Sudan.

Mr Yak said the electricity supply will be both for domestic and industrial use.

He added that the Cabinet also debated insecurity issues in Juba and the Konyo Konyo fire and the discussions will continue on Monday during an extraordinary meeting.

Mr Yak said the Cabinet also studied the food and agriculture framework plan in detail.
