Journalists today walked out of Central Equatoria State Assembly after the information officer rescheduled a press conference to one hour later.
Six pressmen boycotted the conference in protest against a common practice to keep journalists waiting while covering official events. The state parliament called the press to present its reaction to the incidents in Komiru village, Juba, which killed eight people over the weekend.
Misuk Moses, who reports for The Citizen, told Bakhita Radio that he could not waist time waiting for one story because he worked as a freelancer and had to do as much as he could.
Mila Julius from The Juba Post said he was leaving because the state parliament did not respect the time for the conference.
He called on officials to get organized before circulating invitations to the media houses and keep the time.
Misuk Moses from the Daily Mentor said there are many events to cover in town and he could not be forced to wait just for one story.
This is not the first time journalists boycott press conferences due to poor time keeping. Last month reporters from private media walked out of the ministry of health after an official kept them waiting for the state TV crew.
