A German Ecumenical team is satisfied with their partners in Lakes State and encouraged them to further the development track record started.

A team from Misereor, the German Catholic Bishops’ developmental Organization and their Protestant counterpart, German Development Service, was in Rumbek last week on a joint visit to their partners, namely, the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek and ACROSS.

Cora Laes-Fettback is Misereor’s officer for South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia and Uganda. She told Good News Radio that the German ecumenical team is happy with the manner planned projects are being implemented.

She commended the agricultural projects by ACROSS and the education and health services by the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.

Dr Cora expressed her satisfaction with the progress of development in South Sudan, urging South Sudanese to own and further their own development.

She also promised continued support from the German-based organizations.

James Madit Matueny from ACROSS said that the agriculture program empowered the local communities financially through a scheme of loans.

ACROSS also conducted peace building programs in four payams of Rumbek East County in response to the recurrent cases of violent conflict among Lakes State communities.

Mr Madit admitted that violent conflicts have had negative effects in the implementation of their programs.

The chairman of the Peace and Reconciliation group of Atiaba and Aduel Payams, Jacob Mayen, thanked ACROSS for its help to the community through the agriculture project, challenging the youth to get involved in farming.

Both Misereor and the German Development Service are funded by the German Ministry for International Cooperation, represented by Mandy Hupfer in the ecumenical visit to South Sudan.
