The Trade Union of the University of Bahr el Ghazal yesterday called on its members to lay down their tools for three day to press the administration to resolve some salary grievances.

Union chairperson Malwar Majok Ring said the vice-chancellor was warned last Wednesday that the staff would go on strike if some issues with salaries and arrears were not resolved, Radio Voice of Hope reported.

He explained that some staff did not get arrears of September and there were cases of underpayment in August and September.

Mr Majok said the Union is requesting for the calculation and payment of arrears of July 2011 to a number of identified employees.

He added that the university administration was aware of all complaints but did not take any notice.

Mr Majok said the staff wanted also to know why some of their colleagues in Juba get better salaries.

The Union leader said that the university administration had promised to send the accounts controller to Juba to find out why there were differences in salaries but it was only to gain time.

Mr Majok added that the Union is also demanding the settlement of almost 44,300 pounds from differences of the old salary structure and the payment of senior staff transport allowances used by the administration.

He explained that there were also double deductions made by the university administration and the ministry of labour.

The Trade Union of the University of Bahr el Ghazal gave 72 hours to the administration to attend to their complaints.
