Upper Nile University students in Malakal campus are complaining about inadequate service of electricity at their hostels.

A student representative who asked to remain unnamed told Radio Voice of Love that there are consecutive blackouts in their living places and they are not able revise their lessons in the evening.

Students criticized that they have only three hours of light in the evening.

One student said the three hours are not enough for university students to watch news on TV, prepare sleeping places and revise their academic papers.

Students said a committee that was formed to meet the Students’ Dean came with no positive outcome.

They said the university administration told them to buy torches or candles to use in the evening because there was not enough fuel in the state.

Upper Nile University students appealed to the Government of South Sudan to improve the situation at the hostels with electricity, clean water and a spacious dining hall at Salaam Hostel.

Fuel shortages are affecting Upper Nile since May last year when Khartoum blocked commercial routes between the two countries.
