The retired Catholic Bishop of Torit has called on the citizens of South Sudan to promote development by being peaceful and committed to their work.

Bishop Paride Taban said South Sudanese should enjoy the fruits of peace they struggled and fought for in the last five decades.

He added that human existence will be meaningless if people cannot show peace and love to one another.

Bishop Taban stressed that this is the time to live as one people.

He recognized the role played by peace in development.

Bishop Taban urged all citizens to be committed to peace and use their property to bring about peace and development.

He reiterated the need to engage young people in productive and income generating activities in order to promote peaceful co-existence among communities.

Bishop Taban likened the youth to the fish that turn to eat the tail of each other when there is no food.

He added that the youth of South Sudan will also turn against each other if they are idle.

Bishop Taban called on the Government and the international community working in South Sudan to engage the youth in social work as a way to promote peace.

The retired Catholic bishop of Torit made these statements to Radio Emmanuel at Kuron Peace Village during the celebration of his 75 years of life.
