An Arabic daily newspaper is celebrating tomorrow one full year of publication in South Sudan.
Al Masir was launched in Juba on February 25 last year.Chief Editor Atem Simon told Bakhita Radio that tomorrow’s occasion would be marked with a rally.
He added that the rally will discuss media problems and internal unity of the people of South Sudan.
Mr Atem explained that media is important to create development, awareness, civilization, reconciliation and co-existence in the country.
He lamented the lack of media bills as the major challenge media houses face, urging the national parliament to enact the media bills into law to facilitate journalists working in the new nation.
Mr Atem said access to information is a right of all citizens in the country and vital for transparency, democracy and unity of the people.
He added that journalists should be included in the discussions of media bills so that they contribute their inputs into the law.
