The Ministry of General Education and Instruction said its five-year strategic plan targets to train more than 30 thousand teachers to improve teacher performance and strengthen management of the overall education system in South Sudan.
The undersecretary at the General Education Ministry, Deng Deng Yai Hoc, said the existing four teaching institutions will be increased to seven to accommodate the expected number of teachers to be trained.He said some of the plans will focus on initial teachers training to ensure the new entrances into teaching profession are qualified.
Mr Deng said the ministry will provide more in-service training through County Education Centres. He noted that the government will construct centres in the counties that do not have them.
He added the ministry has signed a draft memorandum of understanding with VSO to bring in teachers’ trainers.
Mr Deng mentioned that at least 6,000 teachers will be trained each year to achieve the target number of 30,000.
