The national minister for agriculture told the council of ministers that the country faces a severe food deficit in nine States following this year’s crop failure.
Government spokesman Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press in Juba yesterday that the cabinet discussed measures to meet the hunger gap.He said erratic rains and other conditions were responsible for the shortage of food in the country.
Dr Marial revealed that the council of ministers proposed the creation of silos to store food in various cities including Juba to minimize the food gap.
The assessment comes some days after South Sudan decided to shut down its oil production.
