About 70 returnees who arrived on two planes on yesterday morning at Wau airport expressing discontent over the miserable life South Sudanese are forced to live in Khartoum.

Among the returnees were youth, elders and people with special needs, Radio Voice of Hope reported.

Some of the most vulnerable returnees said surviving in Khartoum became unbearable.

Suraya Ibrahim said she thanked God that she reached home after ten months of hardships in a camp with a lot of rain and dust.

She added that life in Khartoum has changed and Southerners have no freedom and no Sudanese friends anymore.

John Joseph thanked the Government of South Sudan and the humanitarian organizations who gave the golden opportunity for the returnees to fly home.

He encouraged other Southerners living in the Sudan to come home for a new life in the new country.

The returnees received a first assessment at the airport by different humanitarian agencies before they were shown the sites for their temporary settlement.

The trip was organized by IOM, the International Organization for Migration, in partnership with the Government of South Sudan.

IOM chartered seven planes to fly returnees to Wau. Two came yesterday, another two were expected today and three more tomorrow.
