A Juba daily newspaper has called on well-wishers and institutions to assist three technicians in need of medical care abroad after they were severely beaten by the police.

The Citizen published today a call to collect funds to send its head and assistant printers and electrician for urgent treatment to Kenya after they were severely beaten by the new Rescue Police unit on Monday evening.

The three technicians, who were properly identified, were stopped and beaten with sticks and kicked by the police when they were returning to The Citizen premises after they had supper in Munuki.

Nhial Bol, the paper’s owner and chief editor, wrote in his column Straight Talk that the three technicians were severely injured by the police beating and local doctors referred them to Kenya for further treatment.

He urged faith groups to pray for the safety of journalists and a change of heart of those in command in the organized forces.

The Citizen said it accepts donations only from South Sudanese individuals and institutions.
