The Governor of Unity State has reassured growing optimism that South Sudan will build its own oil refineries within a period of not longer than one year.
Taban Gai Deng told Bakhita Radio that it was right for the national government of South Sudan to shutdown the oil pipelines. He said the government’s bold decision to cap the oil production was right and the best option for South Sudan.
Mr Gai added that there are other alternatives and South Sudan should construct refineries to supply domestic consumption.
He said it will not take long to build a refinery in South Sudan.
Mr Gai added that an American group was on its way to construct a mini refinery in Unity State capable to refine 100,000 barrel of crude per a day.
He stressed that the project will be finished in just four months.
The government has also proposed to build a refinery in Akon with a capacity to produce 200,000 barrels a day for domestic consumption.
