The South Sudan Motorcycle Association has issued a new green number plate for the motorcyclists doing boda-boda taxi business in Juba.
Boda-boda Association Chief Coordinator, Lado Roben, said his organization commissioned the new number plates to motorcyclists to differentiate between the people who own motorcycles and those doing boda-boda taxi business. He said it was difficult for the government to collect revenues from the boda-boda riders because it was difficult to tell who was private and who was licensed for commercial purposes.
Mr Roben explained that with the new number plate it will be easy to identify the boda-bodas from the rest of the motorcycles in town.
He appealed to the people who would like to continue in the boda-boda taxi business to get the forms at the association’s office so that they apply for the new number plates within two weeks.
Mr Lado warned that there will be a local order banning those who don’t comply with the new measures after a two-week period.
He said anybody who did not respond to the new system will be out of the boda-boda business and responsible for consequences if he tries to bypass due process.
Mr Roben added that many people recently involve in accidents or arrested were not actually registered with the association.
He said any person to get the new number plate he has turn up his Boda-boda Identity Card and pass a certain test before he is issued the new number plate.
Mr Roben added these procedures were very important because they have seen some underage kids riding boda-boda motorbikes in Juba.
