A youth leader in Wulu County, Lakes State, decried the lack of cultural centres, sporting facilities and educational scholarships for the young to engage in the development of the county.
Philip Tarban Chir told the crowd celebrating County Youth Day that the youth faces many unaddressed challenges.
He said among the needs are youth centres to organized themselves and sports facilities, couches and sports materials.
Mr Tarban added the county has no scholarships for the youth to pursue studies in universities and high institutes of learning.
He said the youth in the county are interested to work in farming but they have no funding for such projects.
He noted that the youth had not realized the importance of working together until Wulu Youth Development Association was formed in 2009 to promote peace, unity, progress for development and education.
Mr Tarban added that the association has greatly changed youth behaviours and that there is peace and incidents of insecurity had been cut down in the county.
This year’s youth day was dedicated to MP Akuce Mayom, of Rumbek East County, for donating a bull to the Wulu County youth, during her campaign in the April 2010 general elections.
