The situation is calm in Uror County of Jonglei State after an attack that killed 55 people, but thousands of residents fled from four payams to the north of the county.

Uror County Commissioner Simon Hoth Dol told CRN News on a telephone interview that the situation is calm since yesterday, but more 6,000 people had left to the north of the county.

Mr. Hoth said 55 people were killed in the attack including 45 women and children.

He added another 52 people were wounded and 40 children abducted.

The commissioner said the attackers were from the Murle community and one of them was killed.

Mr Hoth appealed for humanitarian aid to assist the people who fled their areas and are in dire need of food.

He added that the attackers took with them almost 22,000 heads of cattle.

Mr Hoth said there is no presence of UNMISS forces in Uror, and the government’s pledge to deploy police in the Lou Nuer areas has not materialize.

He said all the forces are in Pibor.

Another local source said the organized forces did not set up yet a buffer zone between Murle and Lou Nuer and a number of border posts between the two communities are unmanned due to bad roads to access the area.
