The conflict opposing Sudanese and rebel forces has been affecting education in Nuba Mountains due to continuous air bombardments in the zone.
Education authorities announced that they wanted to transfer secondary schools from Nuba Mountains to Yida Refugee Camp in Unity State since they do not have qualified teachers and foreigners do not like to come to war areas. However, last week the UN Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres, denied such transfer, saying his agency was making plans for a good primary, secondary and vocational education for young people at the refugee camps instead.
SPLM-North Secretary Abdel-Rhaman Anuwa said that the local administration proposed that students should complete secondary studies in Yida while primary education would continue in the liberated areas with the assistance of local teachers.
The secretary also appreciated the community for raising food for the schools.
Mr Anuwa called the youth to register for blood donations as there is need for a blood bank in the region.
Conflict in the Southern Kordofan has lasted for six months with heavy fighting and loss of life and property.
The government of Khartoum is still attacking civilians using Antonov planes and long range missiles.
