Thirty nine candidates failed to turn up for the Ugandan Primary Leaving Examinations that ended last week in Yei River County, Central Equatoria State.
These examinations were the last taken by South Sudanese pupils since next academic year all schools will follow the South Sudanese Primary School Programme.Yei River County Primary Schools Inspector, Martin Woja Bala, told Radio Easter that 39 registered pupils missed the Ugandan Primary Seven Leaving Examinations.
He said there was no explanation from the centres or from their head teachers for the pupils’ no show.
Mr Woja added that most pupils who did not show up for the exams were boys.
Mr Woja said the exams went smoothly without any reportsof cheating from the chief invigilators in all the centres in Yei River County.
He commended the pupils for their work and determination, adding that they did the exams with honesty.
Some candidates said they were sure they would pass the exams and start secondary education next school year.
Mr Woja called on parents to encourage their children to sit for examinations and avoid dodging them without unclear reasons.
