The Catholic Bishop of Torit starts a visit to Western Deanery in the second leg of his pastoral tour through the diocese.
Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek told Radio Emmanuel that he is visiting all the deaneries of the diocese to share his New Year message with the catholic communities and offer thanksgiving to God for his good health. He added that he also used the pastoral visit to deliver a message of peace, cooperation and hard work to the people of Eastern Equatoria to save the country from poverty.
Bishop Akio said independence does not bring wealth on a silver plate. Instead, people should work to meet their needs and fight poverty.
Bishop Akio explained that he is also collecting videos and photographs documenting the various communities of Torit diocese and their traditions to make a film showing that a complex community can live in unity and love.
He added that he started the work long ago but he lost an earlier video collection he made towards the end of the war.
The bishop of Torit spent the night in Magwi parish.
He will visit Christians in Loa and complete the tour of Western Deanery in Nimule before going to Juba for some rest.
